Tanzanite is a beautiful gemstone which was discovered by accident in 1967. It was found by herders after a wildfire in Tanzania. When exposed to heat, tanzanite turns from brown into shades of blue, violet, and burgundy, depending on how the light hits it. Tanzanite, along with blue zircon and blue topaz, is a modern birthstone for December.
