Start Your Custom Jewelry Project
Looking for a custom ring, earrings, pendant, bracelet, brooch, or something altogether unique that maybe doesn’t even have a name yet? Well, you’ve come to the right place! At Abracadabra, we have been making custom jewelry dreams come true since 1974. We’ve worked with everything from 18k gold to wood, from Petoskey stone to surgical steel extracted after serious medical procedures (and that’s just in the last year or two!).
From our decades of experience, we’ve learned that the process of getting a custom piece made can seem overwhelming for a first-timer. We find that breaking it down makes it feel a lot less intimidating, so we’ve outlined our process below.

PART ONE: THE BASICS
To get started on a custom jewelry project, first we need to determine the essentials:
- Who will be the recipient/wearer of this piece?
- What will the piece represent (ie. wedding, anniversary, graduation, etc.)?
- Is there a specific date that it needs to be completed?
- What is the budget?
The answers to these questions will inevitably lead to more specific questions, but this will be the jumping-off point that allows us to dive into your custom project!
PART TWO: THE DETAILS
Now that we’ve got the basics, it’s time to drill down a bit on what you have in mind for your custom jewelry.
- What sort of metal would you like?
- Will there be a stone, and if so, what kind?
- Is there a specific deep meaning to any of the materials for this piece, or is there potential to use more cost-effective alternatives as needed?
- Do you have inspiration pieces (jewelry or otherwise) that you would like to use as a “moodboard” to create or select your piece?
- For rings, chains, and bracelets: what is your size (if you don’t know, can we help you figure it out)?
Answering these questions will allow us to work together on a sketch of your piece, and workshop it until it’s just right.
PART THREE: THE PLAN
This is where it starts getting real! We’ll outline the necessary labor, estimated production timeline, and estimated cost of material to make your custom piece. Once those details are hashed out, it will be time to start bringing your concept into the real world.
PART FOUR: THE WORK
Now that we’ve got all the info, its time to make it happen! Stand by: this is your piece, so your input is important. We might need to contact you during the production process to assure that you get exactly what you want! Before the piece gets to you, our expert jewelers put each custom piece through a rigorous quality control process to assure that you are getting an heirloom quality piece of jewelry.
PART FIVE: THE DELIVERY
Once the piece is ready, we’ll contact you via your preferred method (call, email, text… whatever works for you!) and put a plan in place to get the finished piece in your hands. It’s rare that changes need to be made from here, but don’t be shy if you think it might need a tweak or two; we aren’t satisfied until you’re satisfied!
