“Despite creating a luxury product, I want to give back. I use conflict free stones, recycled precious metals and a trusted team of craftspeople (including myself) to create my pieces and every item sold gives back. A portion of proceeds from every sale is donated to a cause near & dear to my heart.
Beekeeper & Secret Garden: pollinators and insects are critical to the survival of our world, as well as the creators of so much natural beauty, hence supporting them.
Natural Wonders: the world is amazing and the rock, stones and gems that the earth supplies us with are incredible, and all natural areas must be protected.
NightLife: Bats are also essential pollinators and insect management. In some cultures they are considered good luck, and anywhere there are bats, they play a critical role in the ecosystem. Unfortunately mis-understood, bats need to be protected and studied.
Oceania: Pearls are one of the few organic gemstones, and without fresh, clean water and oceans specifically, we will no longer have pearls, among many other things. The Ocean Cleanup is working to help minimize the impact that humans are making.
Bespoke Beauties: to support women, locally, nationally and internationally (but start close to home) who need support.
Bat Hoop Earring Statement
Growing up in a family of outdoor enthusiasts with close ties within the speleology (cave research, exploration & conservation) community. I was exposed to the myriad beauties of the natural world, both above and below ground. The amazing variety of the natural world has been a huge source of inspiration for Arte*Vitta jewelry-as-wearable-art collections.
Within the speleology community bats and other cave dwelling critters are highly regarded and their images are often used on clothing and accessories to show one’s appreciation and to identify other like-minded individuals.
As an artist, I have never been satisfied with the limited selection of Halloween themed and Batman logo-esque jewelry items available. I have created a series of bat inspired fine jewelry that celebrates these night fliers and their uniqueness. These earrings evolved from a bat that I designed and incorporated into a fused glass panel that is my homage to the Chinese Wufu Rebus tradition.
The wufu rebus is a pictogram that includes a symbol for luck surrounded by five bats representing the five blessings. The association springs from the words for “bat” (fu) and “luck” (fu) being homophones. The concept of wufu dates to the Zhou Dynasty (c.1046BC-256BC) as a symbol of wealth, health and good fortune.
Wear your lucky bat earrings in good health!
