About James Binnion

A pioneer in the world of metalsmithing, James Binnion discovered the Japanese craft of mokume gane – an ancient method of forging + manipulating precious metals to resemble wood grain – in the early 1980s. An engineer by education and an artist in spirit, James uses traditional techniques with an innovative twist to craft wearable art of exceptional beauty.

Like Abra, James has emphasized the importance of utilizing recycled metals + ethically sourced materials since the beginning of his career. Having studied under the same mokume masters as our very own founder Steven – Hiroko + Eugene Pijanowski – Abra began working with Jim in 2003. We’ve enjoyed supporting his immense talent ever since.

Today James continues to create in his Washington-based studio while passing on his knowledge as a world-renowned artist + educator.
